Wreck-It Ralph

2 Stars

Wreck-It Ralph is the tale of a video game villain that wants to do right.  Ralph, voiced by John C. Reilly, is the bad guy in a popular video game.  In the game, Ralph has to watch every day as the hero of the game is praised and loved.  Ralph is hated and ignored.  Ralph decides to set off on an adventure through other video games to get a medal in hopes that people will like him too.
I was really looking forward to this movie.  Throughout the trailers, we are teased with appearances by other video game legends such as Pac-Man, Q-Bert, and the bad guys from Street Fighter 2.  Unfortunately, the trailers give away all the great cameos.  The story itself was rather mediocre and tended to drag in a few places.  I watched this movie with an 11 year old boy and he loved it, so maybe I’m just getting old.
John C Reilly did a great job on the voice acting.  He was able to add a good range of emotion in his dialogue.  He was also very funny.  The other voice acting was on par as well.
If you have preteens in your household, this movie might work for you.  I think the subject matter might have been a little too much for very young children, although it was in no way inappropriate.  The nostalgia for the older audience, such as myself, is fun but wears off quickly.

Wreck-It Ralph was an ok flick.  I would have preferred waiting for a dvd release and suggest you do the same as well.  While not a bad movie, there are a few better ones at the theater right now that would be better spending your money on.
