The Sessions

4 Stars

This tear jerking funny movie will force you to fall in love with this paraplegic man in an hour and a half.  This will be one of the years ten best, Helen Hunt gives a performance of a lifetime in this true story about a 38 year old man, crippled by life long polio,  who is close to the end of his life, not experiencing the joys of physical intimacy with a woman.  After a series of awkward conversations with his pastor, played very well by William H Macy, the man decides to hire a sex surrogate.  Once you get past the awkward taboo of sex with a paralyzed man, not to mention with a  sex surrogate who is married, this story is phenomenal  and heart warming.  Director Ben Lewin allowed Mark O’Brien’s character  played by John Hawkes, to be as authentic as possible, living life looking at everything at a 45 degree angle.  A must see, and a movie we will see during the Oscars.
