Parental Guidance

3 Stars White

As you would imagine, the pair of Billy Crystal and Bette Midler is a winner right off the bat.  These two comedy greats played off each other masterfully.  Marisa Tomei, with her good looks and incredible charm, made you fall in love with her and her children.  This movie tells of a stuffy, yuppie family, who does not use terms like ‘no’ and whose baseball games don’t have a score, no winners and no losers.  Crystal with his old school ways of raising kids seems to clash with his daughter and son-in-law’s new school coddling ways.  Aside from some silliness, and rather weak acting by the children in this movie, it was a delight that left me with a tear in my eye at the end, great date movie, or a movie to see with the kids.
