General Shame

Last week General David Patreous went public about his extramarital affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell, that has been ongoing for more than a year.  I can almost understand a slip up, a one time fling.  I have never lived my life on the road away from home and I will not judge him for his indiscretion….if it was only a  one time fling.  This happened over a year long period of time.  I imagine there was deceit involved, lies, and certainly betrayal.  These actions were thought out, meticulously planned to keep it top secret.  I cannot condone these actions no matter what the circumstances.  This man was a general in the Army, the head of the CIA, he was supposed to me a moral beacon for our soldiers.  This man now faces possible criminal charges in connection with his affair.  It is strictly against the UCMJ to carry on any extramarital activities, there is no room for understanding or momentarily lapses in judgement, he is guilty, and he has admitted it.  I do give him some credit for admitting his wrongdoing and stepping down without a lengthy trial to have him removed as CIA head honcho.  Many in the political arena are questioning the timing of this announcement and resignation due to the fact that the Benghazi hearings are less than a week away, with the CIA taking center stage in these hearings.  Was this a distraction?  Is General Patreous attempting to hide from the Benghazi debacle?  Only time will tell.  Either way, I am very disappointed.
